2013-2014 Season
Share a Coke with MOE!
Saturday, July 12, 2014On July 12, MOE spent a lovely Saturday at Dorney Park for the MAR Team Day hosted by our friends at 1640, SabBOTage. Amidst all the roller coasters and rides, we also found time to refresh ourselves with some coke!
MOE Marches in Hockessin's 4th of July Parade
Nineteen current and former MOE Team members marched in Hockessin, Delaware's Fourth of July parade. Our 2014 robot EliMOEnator rode along in a classic Willys jeep and carried the American flag. The crowds enjoyed it, and kids were happy with the candy thrown by our marchers. The weather cooperated and gave us a fine day. We ended at Wawa with ice cream for all.
first World Championships
The past 4 days have been a blast for MOE to say the least. We've returned with so many marvelous meMOEries, and we can't wait for off season and next year's competition. This year's championship was a unique one to say the least, but we won't put any spoilers here. For more information (and pictures), you'll have to check out our championship page!
MAR District Championships
We've returned from a successful run at MAR District Championships at Lehigh! EliMOEnator did very well and ended up ranked 13th at the end of qualifications. We were the last pick during alliance selections - which was definitely a very nervewracking experience. Team 2180, our caption and the first seeded team, chose 222, Tigertrons, and us, and we advanced through to semifinals. Although MOE did not return with any hardware (medals, banners, etc.), we still had a blast. For more information, check out our competition page.
MOE Wins the Safety Award!
MOE Was the proud winner of the Underwriter Laboratories Safety Award at Bridgewater-Raritan! This is the first time we have won this award, and we were proud of our safety team, and our safety captain, Ashlan, for keeping us all safe. For more information, check out our Safety Page.
Bridgewater-Raritan 2014!
Bridgewater-Raritan was a BLAST! We came home with lots of metal...as in lots of medals! We're honored to have won the Spirit Award, Safety Award, and to have been a finalist with our awesome alliance partners Team 1089 and Team 3314. For more details, check out our competition page.
Subteam Page Update!
The MOE web team recently transformed the official subteam pages. The page with oodles of quick links now features fresh new graphics for each subteam! The subteam page is an easy way to view brief descriptions of the each separate subteam and quickly navigate to their selected page for pictures and even more information! Mechanical Subteam Hard at Work!
Competition season is underway, and we're looking to improve the robot for the upcoming events! Because the game is a little bit more rough-and-tumble than we had anticipated it to be, one of the biggest changes we're making is to the sturdiness of the robot. Says Blake, a member of the Mechanical subteam, "It's really important to make sure that our robot can keep from getting hurt too much on the field." To this end, the team is working towards reducing the length of EliMOEnator's collector arm, as well as thickening its supports to promote durability.
MOE Returns From Chestnut Hill!
MOE Has Returned from the Springside Chestnut Hill District competition! We were honored to be chosen by Team 2016, along with Team 2234, to be in the 4th seeded alliance. Even though we were eliminated in the quarter finals, we were still awarded the Engineering Inspiration Award! For more details, check out our competition page.

Practice Makes Perfect!
The MOE Competition team is practicing for the upcoming competition at Chestnut Hill. They are using a practice bot, dubbed "Eli", to learn and get a feel for the robot and to practice autonomous routines.
Taking Printing to the Next Dimension...
MOE is testing out its brand new 3D printer. The 3D printer will be a key piece in the production of our robot as it can be used to create custom parts modeled by our very own CAD team. This year, we've begun creating custom pieces for our bot thanks to a MOE alum at the University of Delaware. Now, we have our very own printer! Our team received the Next Gen grant from the Delaware Community Foundation to receive the lovely piece of machinery!
Bagged!
We're ecstatic to announce our 2014 robot: EliMOEnator! After 6 short weeks of sweat, tears, and magical MOE mechanical maneuvers, we have a functioning robot - our 15th one, but just as amazing a feat as the first. See our EliMOEnator robot page.
New Design
In honor of 15 years of creating fantastic robots, we've created a special new design for our MOE jersey. Ryan, the designer of our spiffy new insignia, has included the names of all of our past robots in a circle around the gears.
Breaking News!
In the name of the noble effort of testing the quality of our materials, our team has broken several parts of the robot. We've been assured: It's all part of the testing process! In all seriousness, we here at MOE know that even a slight bump in the road like a broken mechanism is an opportunity to learn to avoid the same issue in the future.
Pictured is a part of the robot we haven't broken yet- our fantastic new bumpers, ready for the new season!
EliMOEnator is nearly complete!
EliMOEnator, with just a few more things to iron out, is almost ready to play Aerial Assist. We're working on getting the Programming subteam's coding into the system, and a few more finishing touches, and then the bot will be left to champ at the bit until it's released on the world at our first competition.
The super helpful sign here is to help our programming and comp teams tell which way the robot's actually facing. (Subject to change- we could pull the old switcheroo and turn it around)
Vlog #3!
The PR team released a brand new vlog! In this week's vlog, Dominique has mysteriously turned into Keekee and the robot name is announced. To stock up on MOE news, check out the latest vlog on our tumblr page.
Vlog #2!
Our PR subteam has an update for the WORLD! Their video has all sorts of cool information regarding our 2014 build season. Check out the latest vlog on our tumblr page.
2014 first Kickoff
Kickoff! Recently, MOE celebrated its 15th kickoff! At the team's 9-3 full day event, we gathered in the cafeteria to watch for the funky fresh details in first's big reveal of this season's game, Aerial Assist.
After we all got the info and determined the game is not, in fact, a water game, we settled in for a brainstorming and idea session to figure out what strategies could be used to play the game as it was given to us.
We couldn't be more exited to prepare for the game this year, and to try our best strategy at the challenge of assisting, shooting, or catching our way to the top!
Check out radical photos from the day here.

Saturday, October 19th, 2013
On October 19th, 2013, over 30 teams headed to Salem community college for a packed day of competition, fun, and spirit. Co-hosted by Team 316, the Lunatecs, and Team 365, MOE, the Duel on the Delaware is an annual off-season event that allows teams both new and old to dust off the rust from the past season's robot and launch back into the competition mode - but without the pressure of qualifying for districts, of course! During Duel, the combined effort of all teams participating also raised a total of 4,560 lbs. of books through the Success Won't Wait Book Drive. Find out more info about Duel and check out the awards list here.
