The 2013 First Robotics Competition game, Ultimate Ascent, is played by two opposing alliances with 3 robots each competing to score as many discs into their goals within the 2 minute and 15 seconds long match, consisting of autonomous and teleoperated periods. The match ends with robots climbing a pyramid as high as they can to score points.

Field Overview
Match Format
Each match starts with an autonomous period followed by a teleoperated period, and is 2 minutes and 15 seconds long.
Game Periods
- The autonomous period is the first 15 seconds of the match. Drivers do not control the robot and robots may react only to Kinect inputs and commands programmed into the onboard control system.
- The teleoperated period is the 2-minute period of game play after the hybrid period. During this period, drivers may control the robot for the remainder of the match.
