first 2002 Rules, But With a Twist...
The competition will follow all the rules (except one!) of the first 2002 Robotics Competition “Zone Zeal.”
There will be one exception to these rules, robots can add functionality that they might have had to remove for official competitions – as long as the total robot weight is not more than 140 lbs.
Special Events
- Orientation session for first newbies
- SPECIAL ROUNDS, which will include
- Human Player -- Soccer Ball Shoot-off -- See box below
- Nano-Robotic Surgery -- Diabolical Robot Obstacle Course! -- See box below
- first LEGO League demonstration
- DuPont 200th Anniversary giveaways
- MOEStix in action!
We may not hold an official Team/Robot costume contest... but feel free to dress up your robot and team. After all, it will be October!
Human Player Event -- Soccer Ball Shoot-off
Here's the scoop in a nutshell... Download complete details of Human Player Soccer Ball Shoot-off (Word document 34 KB).
To be played during the lunch break at approximately 12:30 p.m.
Each team shall select one student to represent their
team as the human player, and two students to assist
the human player by passing ten soccer balls to the human player.
Only the designated human player can attempt to toss the soccer balls
into the goal.
In the first round of this competition, the goal will
be centered on a point 15 feet from the player station equidistant
from each side of the playing field.
At the end of the first round,
additional rounds will be played as necessary to determine a single
champion (the human player with the greatest number of soccer balls
in the goal). In each subsequent round, the goal will be
moved an additional 10 feet from the player station.

Nano-Robotic Surgery -- Diabolical Robot Obstacle Course!
Here are excerpts from the master plan... Download complete details of Nano-Robot Surgery (Word document 157 KB).
Nano-Robot Surgery is to be played immediately before and after alliance selection following the completion of the qualification round.
Your robot is a surgical nano-robot. It was built to remove foreign bodies (the goals) from a critically ill patient (the playing field). As the nano-robotic surgeon, you must take great care not to harm your patient as you remotely conduct this surgery. Damaging an organ will hurt your patient, and your score!
You have two minutes to do your surgery. If you complete the surgery (completely remove all three foreign bodies), bonus points will be awarded.....
But beware of those organs! Damaging an organ produces injury points, which will be deducted from your score...
